A Winter Pregnancy Announcement At-Home

Rachel envisioned a golden-hour announcement session at home—set on the dock in her mother’s backyard—with a relaxed, joy-filled atmosphere to share the sweet news of their growing family. The soft evening light, the familiarity of home, and the peaceful water created the most meaningful backdrop for such a special chapter.

Immediately, yes! I was all in.

To make it even more personal, Rachel—an avid baker—crafted and decorated her own announcement cake. Not only was it beautiful and thoughtfully designed, but it was absolutely delicious, adding the sweetest finishing touch to an already unforgettable evening.

Rachel and Jack greeted me with easy hugs, both of them effortlessly put together in soft neutral knits. Within moments, it felt less like a first meeting and more like slipping into an old friendship. We stood on the backyard dock with the calm water behind them and sunlight spilling in just right—it all felt simple, warm, and wonderfully welcoming.

The easy rhythm of this session—soft light pouring in and love filling every moment—made it feel less like a photoshoot and more like simply being together. We were just there, soaking it in and preserving the moments as they naturally unfolded. It’s these quiet, joy-filled celebrations that remind me why I’m so drawn to documenting families in the first place.
